Born in Brooklyn, New York, Roland Ruocco early on developed a fascination
in making art reflecting the world around him. As his artistic interests
grew, he went on to attend the High School of Art and Design , Pratt Institute
and studied at the Art Students League in New York City. Roland has worked
in the Illustration and Graphic Design fields over the years to supplement
his over fifteen year fine art career in New York. Having studios in the
Downtown and Williamsburg districts of Brooklyn with close proximity to
the East Village in Manhattan he was exposed to many artistic styles and
mind sets, which are reflected in his work today. The exposure to and
affiliation with grass roots arts movements were significant to Roland's
avoidance of the mainstream.
The establishment of the New Light Studio and Gallery, with his wife,
artist, Wendy White, is an expression of their independence and non- sole
reliance on the gallery system.
In Roland's art he
expresses his interest and commitment to such wide ranging issues as climatology
and social/ political topics.Through the use of paintings, drawings, mapmaking,
and computer renderings his vision takes on diverse artistic directions.
